How
we can be of assistance?
Consultation
We will provide sufficient time for consultation so we can explore
together the problems you have had. We will also discuss the investigations
required and, where required, treatment
options.
Examination
and Investigation
You will need abdominal and pelvic examination. This is an important
step in assessing your condition. The examination is performed with
dignity and painlessly. The examination is usually followed by some
specialist investigations such as:
Pelvic
ultrasound
Vaginal ultrasound is preferred because of the greater detailed
information obtained that way than the abdominal ultrasound. The
ultrasound scan assesses the lie and size of the womb, the ovaries
and measures the lining of the womb. When this is thickened, it
raised the potential for polyps, inside the womb or in the cervix.
Hysteroscopy
examination and sample taking
Following an ultrasound scan, the inside of the womb is inspected
with a fine telescope (with an attached camera) examination in a
procedure called hysteroscopy. This enables the specialist to inspect
the inside of the womb for polyps and sings of cancer.
A sample for further laboratory tests is taken from the lining of
the womb using a fine catheter. Hysteroscopy does not normally require
any anaesthetic but, where necessary, a local anaesthetic will be
used.
Hormone tests
These may be necessary is certain situations, such as in suspected
Polycystic ovary syndrome.
Treatment
There are many treatment options that are available to you. Many
are given in outpatient settings and others are short stay hospital
treatment methods. The popular and effective options for intractable
menstrual problems include the Mirena® Intrauterine system,
the Microwave Endometrial Ablation and Thermachoice. Of course when
necessary we will perform a hysterectomy for you.
